Specialist asset manager Unigestion has launched a global equity fund, with a focus on the transition to a low-carbon economy.
The Unigestion Climate Transition Fund will be managed by the equities team, with team member Sara Razmpa appointed lead manager. It will invest in between 50 and 70 companies which are considered by the manager to be addressing climate change, aligned with the adaptation and mitigation activities defined by the EU Taxonomy.
The newly-launched Ucits fund meets TCFD recommendations and complies with Article 9 of the SFDR.
The actively-managed, high conviction fund will invest in holdings that fit the category of either “mitigator” or “enabler”.
The mitigator category includes companies that Unigestion believes are “best placed” to navigate the transition to a low-carbon future, while the enabler category is for companies creating technological solutions to support the transitionary journeys of a range of sectors.
Fiona Frick, Unigestion CEO, said: “Transitioning to a sustainable economy will require asset managers to deploy a huge amount of capital, presenting significant opportunities for investors but also risks. These risks, such as around valuation, crowding and data accuracy, need to be rigorously managed by portfolio managers while, at the same time, meeting the growing demand for social alpha on top of performance.
“The Unigestion Climate Transition Fund seeks to address these requirements, standing out from its peers by providing investors with an SFDR Article 9 product that has a clear mandate to outperform, as well as to deliver social alpha by contributing to two SDGs.”
