One of Northern Trust’s most senior UK-based executives, Clive Bellows, has been made a freeman of the City of London at a ceremony at the Guildhall.
Dating back to 1237, the freedom once enabled individuals to carry out their trade – though today the honour is used to recognise outstanding contributions to London life as well as international achievements.
Bellows was honoured for his contribution to the the City’s financial services industry including his leadership as co-president of asset servicing and president for the Emea region.
Bellows received the honour alongside Barbara the sheep (not in the photo) – a nod to one of the City’s traditions dating back to the 13th century: the ancient right of a freeman to drive sheep across London Bridge.
