The lead role for Jupiter’s top-performing multi-billion pound European growth strategy is to change hands by the end of this year.
After an initial transition period working as fund manager within the team, Mark Nichols is to replace Alexander Darwall as lead manager of Jupiter’s high-performance £5.3 billion European fund, and its £2.4 billion European growth Sicav.
Nichols’ appointment marks a continuation of Jupiter’s ongoing development in one of its strongest investment capabilities – European equities.
Currently co-manager of Columbia Threadneedle’s £4 billion European Select Strategy, Nichols has spent his entire 18-year investment career working in European equities and is set to bring a wealth of experience to the asset management firm as it increases its presence in Europe.
“We are delighted to attract a manager of Mark’s pedigree and experience to this important role in our European growth team,” said Jupiter’s chief investment officer (CIO) Stephen Pearson.
According to Pearson, a succession plan has been in the pipeline for some time since Darwall announced his intention to step back as head of Jupiter’s European growth strategy and manager of the two European funds.
Darwall, who has been managing funds at Jupiter for more than 18 years, “has produced outstanding returns for clients,” the CIO stated.
“When Alexander approached us with his desire to focus on Jupiter European Opportunities Trust plc and the segregated institutional mandates, our priority was to ensure continuity of process and a smooth transition for clients in this important franchise,” Pearson said.
