Swiss fund house GAM Holding has hired a lawyer from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to become the firm’s first group head of compliance.
Natalie Baylis, who has worked for the FCA since 2006, will join GAM in June and become a member of the group’s management board.
Since 2013 Baylis has been the FCA’s chief counsel for markets, wholesale, funds and prudential regulation.
Before joining the FCA Baylis worked as a barrister for ten years, specialising in commercial law. She has a post-graduate diploma in law from the City University in London and a master’s degree in French and Spanish from the Edinburgh University.
GAM group chief executive Alexander Friedman said: “The newly-created role of the group head of compliance underlines the importance of this function to the group, and Natalie’s extensive experience will ensure GAM maintains compliance with best practices in the changing regulatory environment.”
GAM has also announced that Dirk Spiegel, the group’s general counsel, has decided to leave the company to pursue other opportunities and will step down from this role and from the group management board with immediate effect.
Kenneth Dursht, GAM’s general counsel for the US, will serve as the interim group general counsel, and a successor will be announced shortly.
