Roxane Sanguinetti, founding partner of Alma Angels, on how to become an angel investor and plug the funding gap
Angel investing holds untapped power, not only to scale companies, but to reshape our world. In our workshop “How to become an angel investor: plugging the funding gap” we explore how more women stepping into this space could meaningfully shift the dynamics of capital, leadership, and innovation.
Yet it remains a largely male-dominated arena, with only 9 to 14% of angel investors identifying as women across the UK and Europe. Women are often unaware of, or lack access to these high-yield opportunities, widening the wealth gap and stalling momentum toward economic equality. And to truly level the playing field for underrepresented founders, we must change *who* allocates capital.
Alma’s mission is to grow and empower a diverse pipeline of capital decision-makers: from angel investors to fund managers and family offices to limited partners. We do this through practical education, community, and access: breaking down barriers to entry and giving capital allocators the tools and confidence to invest with conviction.
This workshop goes beyond raising awareness. We will spotlight the structural issues – like the fact that less than 2% of VC capital goes to women entrepreneurs – and dig into why representation matters on the cap table. Then, we will get hands-on: showcasing real start-ups, walking through due diligence, and guiding participants to take their first steps as angel investors.
Angel investing is not just about capital, it is about changing who gets to shape the future. We envision a world where investment reflects the richness of human potential, where diverse investors and founders build a more innovative, inclusive future together.
