Sampension, a manager of pension funds for Danish government workers, has named Mads Smith Hansen as chief executive.
He replaces Hasse Jorgensen who has stepped down after 16 years leading the pension fund.
Smith Hansen joined Sampension back in 2011 and has previously served as both chief operating officer and chief financial officer.
He has also served on Sampension’s executive board since 2020.
Prior to joining Sampension, Smith Hansen previously worked for Danish pension funds ATP and Norli Pension as well as Nordic bank Nordea.
Smith Hansen’s appointment was welcomed by Sampension chairman Jens Ejner Christensen who also thanked his predecessor Jorgensen, adding that “the time has now come for a generational change to ensure the company’s change”.
Sampension is Denmark’s third largest pension fund manager with approximately €27 billion of assets under management.
