UK pension fund manager Railpen has received unanimous planning approval from Hertsmere Borough Council for a 120,000 sq ft logistics hub at South Mimms in Hertfordshire in the East of England.
Developed in partnership with Wrenbridge, the facility aims to achieve global sustainability standards, including Energy Performance Certificate A+, Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method or BREEAM outstanding, and a 30% Biodiversity Net Gain ratings.
The site, positioned outside of the Ulez zone, offers the opportunity for a last mile facility to switch to electric transport servicing London. The project will create around 170 long-term jobs and significant jobs during construction. It is also anticipated to add £7.2m per year to the Hertfordshire’s economy and generate almost £750,000 in annual business rates.

South Mimms will join Railpen’s existing logistics facilities in Waltham Cross and Dartford, with all three sharing the same characteristics and developed in partnership with Wrenbridge.
Railpen also received consent in October 2023 for the £30m redevelopment of the Castle Estate, which forms part of the Cressex Business Park in High Wycombe.
