Returns from investments in private markets have “stabilised above zero” in the first quarter of the year, according to data.
Globally, performance returned to positive territory for most strategies after a “challenging” 2022, according to eFront, a software provider owned by asset manager BlackRock.
In eFront’s Insight Quarterly Performance Benchmark report that covers the period to the end of the first quarter this year, three consecutive quarters of negative returns were said to end with a return across various strategies of 1.1% in Q1 this year.
Buyout funds continued a positive performance of 2.1% in Q1. Other strategies – including funds of funds, real estate, infrastructure and natural resources – produced a combined return of 0.5% over Q1.
However, venture capital funds “continued with their downward trend”, recording a return of -0.1%.
The data is based on 7,800 funds with $8.3 trillion of committed assets.
