Northern Trust has appointed a lead investment strategist in the second of two hires since splitting the role of international chief executive and chief investment officer for Europe and other regions.
Wouter Sturkenboom is to be Northern Trust Asset Management’s lead chief investment strategist in Europe, Middle East, Africa (Emea) and Asia-Pacific.
Earlier this year Wayne Bowers, who held a combined role of CEO and CIO covering Emea and Asia Pacific, departed the company, according to reports.
Northern Trust said it had announced the splitting of its international CEO and CIO roles into two distinct roles earlier this year.
Sturkenboom, formerly of Russell Investments, will be responsible for designing and implementing global investment strategy and his appointment follows that of Marie Dzanis as head of Northern Trust Asset Management’s Emea business.
Sturkenboom was most recently a senior investment strategist in New York with Russell Investments and before that in London with the same firm, but the Northern Trust role sees him based in the Netherlands.
At Northern Trust, which manages more than US$900 billion, he reports to Jim McDonald, chief investment strategist, who said Sturkenboom will help deliver distinctive insights that will “resonate with investors around the world”.
