Columbia Threadneedle has taken on Nick Ring as chief executive of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (Emea) to replace Michelle Scrimgeour who left the company four months ago.
The appointment marks a return to the firm for Ring, who joined rival Jupiter Asset Management as head of global distribution seven years ago from Columbia Threadneedle. He will report directly to global chief executive Ted Truscott.
Starting in September, Ring will also join the executive leadership team of Ameriprise Financial, of which the London-based firm is the global asset management group. He brings with him around 30 years of industry experience, with specific knowledge in product, strategy, and distribution roles.
Prior to joining Columbia Threadneedle in 2008, Ring had also held positions at Northern Trust, KPMG, and Prudential.
Ring’s reappointment has been welcomed by Truscott, who highlighted that he has an “excellent understanding” of its business, and of the asset management sector as a whole – he also “embraces the culture” of Columbia Threadneedle, having worked there previously.
His “technical expertise combined with strong client-focus is the right combination to lead our Emea business as we strive to strengthen our client relationships and value proposition”, Truscott said.
