JP Morgan Asset Management (JPMAM) has hired Karen Ward as chief market strategist for Europe and UK, replacing Stephanie Flanders who left earlier this year.
Ward, who will start after the Autumn Budget, has worked for the Bank of England (BoE) and is currently chair of the Council of Economic Advisers for the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
JPMAM made the announcement earlier this week and said Ward would lead the firm’s market insights team and report to David Kelly, US-based chief global strategist.
Ward has also worked as chief European economist at HSBC Global Banking & Markets, a company she joined in 2006. Before that, at the BoE, she was an economic analyst, a role that included informing the Monetary Policy Committee about the economy.
Kelly said Ward had a wealth of private and public sector experience and that working for the BoE and the Treasury meant she had deep insights into the challenges of Brexit and the normalisation of monetary policy in Britain.
Flanders left JPMAM in June to work with Bloomberg Economics.
