Healthcare is the most popular sector among UK Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) professionals, with 94% stating they would increase investments in the industry, a survey by Alpha Real Capital showed.
The survey found healthcare to be the top choice for fund professionals in terms of social infrastructure allocation (74%), followed by housing (58%) and education (51%).
Within healthcare, respondents indicated particular interest towards the primary care sector, with around two-thirds indicating an appetite for sub-sectors, including elderly care.
Ed Palmer, CIO and head of sustainability at Alpha Real Capital, said investing in the healthcare sector offers stable returns and provides the opportunity to support the essential health-related services on which the LGPS members and broader communities rely.
Alpha Real Capital commissioned the market research company Pure Profile to survey 100 LGPS fund professionals. Interviews were conducted online in January 2023.
