Funds Europe’s deputy editor Mark Latham has won the CFA Society UK’s prestigious Trade Journalist of the Year Award for 2019.
The coveted award, from the association of finance industry professionals, was presented to Latham for an interview piece with Lionel Aeschlimann, chief executive of Mirabaud Asset Management, on the headaches that Brexit is creating for fund houses outside the EU.
Latham (pictured left) joined Funds Europe in 2017 from the Sunday Herald, where he worked as deputy business editor.
In a career that has taken him from Glasgow to Brussels, Berlin and London, he has also worked as a business journalist for The Sunday Times, Handelsblatt Global Edition and the Economist Group.
Last year Latham won the CFA’s Best Newcomer to Financial Journalism Award for an article about the potential impact of Brexit on the UK’s £7 trillion (€8 trillion) asset management industry.
The CFA’s annual journalism awards are determined by reviews of multiple, anonymised submissions from leading national and investment publications.
The winners were selected by CFA UK’s marketing and communications and ethics committees.
The judging panel this year was made up of: Robin Black, CFA, Edward Caplin, ASIP, David Clarke, CFA, Laura Fauvel, CFA, Marisa Virseda, CFA and Yanrong Wang, CFA.
The prizes were presented yesterday at the CFA UK’s annual summer reception in the exclusive surroundings of the Leonardo Royal Hotel’s rooftop garden in the City of London.
The CFA UK financial journalism awards aim to highlight contributions towards the advancement of investor education through journalism.
Launched in 2012, the awards celebrate articles that highlight ethical and professional standards in the UK investment sector.
