Twenty coveted awards were handed down following a dinner and awards ceremony compered by stand-up comedian Russell Kane.
The European Personality of the Year Award was presented to Philippe Seyll, CEO of Clearstream Fund Services, and the European CIO of the Year was revealed as Johanna Kyrklund, group CIO of London-based asset manager Schroders.
This year’s Funds Europe Awards saw a move to a new venue, after being held in the Tower of London for many years previously.
Funds Europe editor Nick Fitzpatrick, who chaired the judging panel, said he was delighted with the success of the event, which attracted over 250 guests from across Europe.
“The quantity and quality of the entries this year was remarkably high, which made the selection of awards winners challenging.
“We are very grateful to our judges who devoted a great deal of time assessing our many high-quality entries. Competition was, as ever, really stiff and our judges sometimes had to make tough decisions.”
European CIO of the Year
Johanna Kyrklund of Schroders was awarded CIO of the Year. She joined Schroders in 2007 and has since become a transformative force. As Group CIO since 2019, she oversees investment performance, philosophy, and process across all public market assets.
Her commitment to collaboration and idea-sharing has set a benchmark within Schroders, fostering a culture where the best ideas rise to the surface. Under Johanna’s leadership, Schroders has delivered consistently strong performance, too, with assets under management reaching over £760 billion.
European Personality of the Year
One judge described Philippe Seyll, the CEO of Clearstream Fund Services, as having a “nothing short of” transformative impact on the funds industry.
His contributions go far beyond expanding the reach and success of Clearstream; his vision has consistently propelled the industry forward, opening new doors and setting new benchmarks in fund processing, distribution, and beyond.
As well as having made a number of acquisitions that demonstrated his foresight, in a company as prestigious as Deutsche Boerse, Philippe’s work has elevated the importance of the funds industry on the agenda of one of the world’s most influential financial institutions.
Comedy compere
UK comedian Russell Kane treated the audience to a routine nicely flavoured with his observations about differences between Brits and Europeans, which highly entertained the cross-border European crowd!
Mark Latham, deputy editor, said: “Russell’s humour persisted into the awards presentations themselves. He managed to be respectful to presenters and recipients, whilst also getting away with a little gentle mockery!”
Nick Fitzpatrick added: “It was our best awards event yet. Thank you to our team who staged this, and to our sponsors: CACEIS Investor Services, Calastone, FundGuard, iM Global Partner, Northern Trust and Societe Generale Securities Services.
“We will announce the launch of the 2025 awards in due course. And finally, congratulations to all our winners!”
