Independent fund distributor Spring Capital has been selected by Swedish fund manager Finserve Nordic to distribute its global defence fund.
The Finserve Global Security Fund, which is focused on defence, cybersecurity and space, is described by the fund manager as the longest-running active global defence fund and the first to be distributed in the UK and Europe.
Conceived in 2019, the fund was launched to capitalise on what was then seen as the beginning of a new geoeconomic world order and potentially long-term structural growth for the defence industry.
Defence budgets have subsequently increased, especially across Europe following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Global military expenditure hit a record level (around $2.7 trillion) in 2024 but escalating geopolitical tension and changes in the balance of power has led to calls for further investment in security.
Meanwhile, there is an accelerating commercialisation of the space sector with satellite technology increasingly important to digital communications and data collection.
Spring Capital has been enlisted to raise the profile of the fund.
“[Finserve] had the foresight to do so seven years ago, long before other defence-focused funds came to market, most of which are passive and have a track record of less than three years,” said Malcolm Arthur, director at Spring Capital.
