Anshu Jain, president of US financial services firm Cantor Fitsgerald and former chief executive of Deutsche Bank, died at the age 59.
Jain was credited with turning Deutsche Bank from a domestically focused bank into a global banking giant during his tenure as co-chief executive between 2012 and 2015.
He joined Deutsche Bank from Merrill Lynch in 1995 and was widely recognised for building the bank’s markets business.
Jain had been president of Cantor Fitsgerald since January 2017, where he was instrumental in building and cultivating its advisory and sales and trading businesses.
Howard Lutnick, chief executive of Cantor Fitgerald, said: “It is with profound sadness that today we confirm Anshu’s passing.
“Anshu was the consummate professional who brought a wealth of experience and wisdom to his role as president. He will be remembered as an extraordinary leader, partner, and dear friend who will be greatly missed by all of us and by all who knew him.”
Alexander Wynaendts, chairman of the supervisory board at Deutsche Bank, said: “Anshu Jain played a defining role in expanding Deutsche Bank’s position in our global business with companies and institutional investors.
“Today, this is of strategic importance not just for Deutsche Bank, but for Europe as a financial centre.”
