Aberdeen Standard Investments has seen a crop of departures as some of its equity specialists join Aviva Investors.
Of the nine hires to Aviva’s equities business, eight were originally at Standard Life Investments (SLI), which merged with Aberdeen Asset Management last year.
The Aviva hires are across UK, global and global emerging market equities teams and follow the arrival of David Cumming – also previously at SLI – as chief investment officer for equities in January this year.
Mikhail Zverev will join Aviva Investors as head of global equities and Alistair Way will join as head of global emerging market equities.
Zverev joins on October 1 and was formerly head of global equities at SLI. Aberdeen Standard gave this role to Stephen Docherty after the merger.
Way joins on July 16 and was formerly head of emerging market equities at SLI. Aberdeen Standard gave this role to Devan Kaloo.
The two former SLI men had been at SLI since 2007.
Aviva’s other hires from SLI are:
- Henry Flockhart and Adam McInally as UK equity portfolio managers
- Jaime Ramos Martin and Ross Mathison as global equities portfolio managers
- Jonathan Taub and Will Malcom as global emerging markets portfolio managers
Stephanie Niven also joins Aviva Investors as a global equity portfolio manager but was formerly with Tesco Pension Investment.
David Cumming, chief investment officer, equities, at Aviva Investors said the people were “high calibre” individuals with strong performance track records and he said additional hires were planned for this year.
An Aberdeen Standard Investments spokesperson said the firm was grateful for the departed portfolio managers’ hard work over the years, and added: “Inevitably when you integrate two investment teams there will be some departures.”
The spokesperson added that Aberdeen Standard had created “one of the largest and best resourced equities teams in the industry”, with over 150 equity investment professionals.
