Research has highlighted digital infrastructure as the primary challenge for buy-side adoption of real-world asset tokenisation.
According to the research from industry association Global Digital Finance surveying finance firms across the US, Asia, Europe and the Middle East, 90% cited digital infrastructure as the top hurdle, followed by custody issues (69%) and ESG considerations (61%).

The study revealed that buy-side engagement is crucial, with 66% of respondents indicating it as a key accelerator. Additionally, 65% stressed the need for cash-on-ledger solutions and 64% highlighted the importance of regulatory certainty.
The study also showed positive sentiments towards ESG impacts, with 83% agreeing that tokenisation will benefit ESG efforts and 89% believing that AI will significantly enable digitisation and tokenisation. Cybersecurity, decentralised finance and digital identity were also recognised as critical elements, with 75%, 85% and 81% of respondents, respectively, emphasising their importance.
