Charles Stanley has appointed Patrick Farrell as head of research and chief investment officer.
Farrell has over 30 years’ experience in investment management roles at some of Australia’s largest companies.
Most recently he was CIO for the Suncorp Group, the largest general insurance group in Australia, as well as BT Financial Group, the wealth and asset management arm of Westpac, one of Australia’s ‘big four’ banks.
Farrell will chair the firm’s investment committee and develop the framework for the investment strategy and processes, as well as the responsible investing and ESG offering.
He will also lead engagement between Charles Stanley investment staff and the central research team.
He will provide the internal investment network with investment ideas and implementation strategies that reflect the house view on elements such as asset allocation to improve risk-adjusted returns for client portfolios.
Farrell will work closely with the asset management team, led by Dan James.

Farrell will begin his role in January and will be based in London, reporting directly to Abberley.
