Asset manager Candriam has made strategic leadership changes within its Thematic Global Equity team, emphasising its commitment to “healthcare investing expertise”.
The asset manager shared that its Thematic Global Equity offering focuses on four long-term megatrends: health, environment, technology and demographics.
The firm has appointed Servaas Michielssens, PhD, CFA, as head of healthcare, effective February 12, 2024. Based in Brussels, Michielssens will oversee Candriam’s healthcare offering and lead its life care strategy alongside co-manager Pierre Vaurice.

Additionally, Linden Thomson, CFA, has been appointed senior fund manager to lead the firm’s biotechnology and oncology strategies, effective February 19, 2024. Before this, Linden led the biotech strategy and was head of the healthcare franchise at AXA Investment Managers. She will be based in London for the new role.
Candriam adds to healthcare fund range
These appointments are part of Candriam’s strategic succession plan as Rudi Van den Eynde, the current head of Thematic Global Equity, prepares to retire in Q1 2025. Johan Van der Biest, currently deputy head, will step in as co-head alongside Rudi, eventually assuming leadership after Rudi’s retirement. Johan will oversee a team of investment professionals, focusing on growing Candriam’s thematic offerings to meet client demands while retaining his fund management responsibilities and position as deputy head of Thematic Global Equity.
