Mike Tumilty is Aegon Asset Management’s chief operations officer responsible for the oversight of operations and technology. He joined Aegon Asset Management in January 2023.
Tumilty will be the headline COO interview at FundsTech 2025, to be held on April 29 in London. Interviewed by Nick Fitzpatrick, editor, Funds Europe, the interview is likely to discuss tech strategy, the value of outsourcing, and transformation.
Prior to his current role, Tumilty was the global chief operating officer at adrdn plc from March 2019 until the end of 2022. He spent 28 years at Standard Life, Standard Life Investments and abrdn in many senior roles in the operations, change and technology space. He led on multiple large-scale acquisitions as well numerous Target Operating Model initiatives.
He was also the appointed as the shareholder representative for abrdn on the board of Phoenix Plc (FTSE100) between September 2019 and the end of June 2022. A member of the Citi Global Advisory Board since 2010, he participates in advice and guidance as to the development of the Citi Securities Services business globally.
Having joined Standard Life as a graduate trainee in 1994 after graduating with a BA (hons) in Economics from Heriot-Watt University, Tumilty is a keen promoter of the development of young talent and takes a keen interest all matters pertaining to diversity, equality and inclusion.
He has been a member of the Court of Heriot-Watt since 2018 and is chair of the audit and risk committee as well as chair of Heriot-Watt Services Limited which is the company under which Heriot-Watt’s sports facility (Oriam) sits.
