Schroders is to launch a hedge fund operated by Conatus Capital Management in a Ucits form on its Schroder GAIA platform.
The Schroder GAIA Conatus Equity fund will be launched on June 7, offering a global long/short equity strategy run by portfolio manager David Stemerman, the founder of Conatus. He will be supported by a team of nine.
The fund’s strategy is based on the same equity long/short process that Conatus has employed since its inception in 2008, aiming for outperformance with lower volatility.
Short selling of single stocks and industry themes is a central focus.
Historically, Conatus has had approximately one third of its assets invested in companies outside of the US, of which half is typically held in emerging markets, Schroders said.
Eric Bertrand, director of GAIA Platform, said there had been a lot of demand for long/short equity strategies as investors looked to diversify into liquid alternatives.
