Asset management is the most attractive sector for jobseekers looking for careers in financial services, according to a recruitment firm.
Firms themselves are also placing a premium on people with languages.
“For job seekers in 2016, asset management is the industry to be in,” said Marcus Williams, manager at Morgan McKinley Investment Management Finance. “Professionals with multi-lingual skills and relevant industry experience are in a strong position to secure attractive packages.”
Williams said that linguistic ability was an advantage when influencing business leaders in Asia. Also, languages were even more important for mid-market asset managers, who don’t have as many overseas offices.
The recruitment firm said that asset management businesses were looking for top talent, especially portfolio managers and analysts, after a record year of mergers and acquisitions.
The report also said that asset management was proving to be the top business performer in the financial sector, with both top and bottom line growth.
Morgan McKinley said growth and demand for talent in asset management will be a key theme for 2016.
