Mapfre AM, the €40bn AUM asset management arm of Mapfre Group – a top-six European insurer and top-10 global reinsurer – has announced Jorge Colomer as the new CEO, taking over from Álvaro Anguita, who has led the firm since its founding over 30 years ago.
With more than 25 years of experience in the finance sector, across investments, asset management and private banking, Colomer has most recently been CIO at CaixaBank Asset Management. He takes up the new role as Mapfre is looking to grow its presence in investments, savings and wealth management.
The appointment follows recent news that the group is rebranding its entire international footprint, including some 4,600 offices worldwide, and including the Mapfre AM business.
Juan Bernal, Mapfre’s group chief investment officer, commented: “Bringing Jorge Colomer on board will significantly strengthen our position in the asset management industry.” Bernal pointed to Colomer’s market knowledge and proven leadership skills in competitive environments.
Colomer holds the ESG Analyst (CESGA) certification, which chimes with Mapfre AM’s investment philosophy. That seeks to incorporate ESG considerations into the investment process, as well as offering products that target pockets of ESG, such as the Capital Responsable, Inclusion Responsable, and Good Governance funds.
Mapfre AM also offers products or access to strategies through subsidiaries or partnership agreements. These include La Financière Responsable (LFR) in sustainable investing and Boyar Value Group in US equity analysis. It has partnerships across private equity, infrastructure and financial advisory platforms.
