The 300 Club, a group of investment professional that campaigns for a fair financial system, has established a chapter in North America.
The American group is headed by Chris Ailman, CIO of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (Calstrs), who is already a member of the club.
Americans who have newly joined are Ted Eliopoulos, CIO of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System; Sam Masoudi, CIO of the Wyoming Retirement System; and Russell Read, CIO of the Alaska Permanent Fund.
Stefan Dunatov, chief investment officer of the UK’s Coal Pension Trustees Investment Limited and chairman of the 300 Club, said: “Establishing a North American chapter of the 300 Club is a natural step in the evolution of the group. We are seeing increasing levels of interest from peers in the industry as we work to challenge current investment theories and build a sustainable and fair financial system.”
The 300 Club already has members based in America. As well as Ailman, these include Ron Barin of Alcoa, Bob Maynard of the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho, David Villa of the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, and Ron Schmitz of the Virginia Retirement System.
The 300 Club said it believed that economic and investment trends are set to change the investing landscape over the next two decades, “heading towards a turning point that presents huge risks to ordinary savers”.
