Markus Ruetimann, group chief operating officer (COO) at UK-based asset manager Schroders, is leaving after 12 years at the firm.
Ruetimann joined Schroders in 2004 from UBS Global Asset Management where he was global head of technology and portfolio services. Prior to that he was chief operating officer for Phillips & Drew in London from 1988 to 1998.
In his most recent role as group COO, his remit included global responsibility for institutional portfolio services, fund services, information technology, change and project management and corporate services.
Ruetimann told Funds Europe: “It has been enormously rewarding, both personally and professionally, to have had the opportunity to lead a talent pool that has delivered a highly efficient and scalable global platform, supporting the firm’s tripling of assets under management.”
It is understood that his current responsibilities will be allocated to a number of senior executives when he leaves the firm at the beginning of next month.
Ruetimann said that he plans to use the experience gained at Schroders as the basis “for a new venture in financial services” and will be exploring opportunities during the autumn.
Schroders has $466.9 billion (€415.9 billion) in assets under management as of March 31, this year.
