Luther Bryan Carter has been hired by HSBC Global Asset Management to improve country research through his leadership of the global emerging market debt team.
Carter joins from BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM) and takes over from Nishant Upadhyay, who remains at the firm but will focus on other fixed income projects.
Carter is said to have strong ESG credentials, having developed a process to integrate sustainability into the emerging markets debt investment process at BNPP AM, where he was most recently a portfolio manager.
HSBC GAM said deepening country research would be among Carter’s first tasks.
As head of the global emerging market debt team, Carter reports to Xavier Baraton, global chief executive officer for fixed income, private debt and alternatives.
