Guernsey’s financial services industry has hired a Hong Kong-based specialist as it continues to raise its profile in China.
Dorothy Kwok, who has a background in trust and corporate services, becomes Guernsey Finance’s permanent representative in Hong Kong.
Guernsey Finance is the promotional agency for Guernsey’s finance industry and opened its Hong Kong office at the end of 2016.
It appointed Christopher Chan as its Asia-Pacific representative in February 2017, though he left several months later.
Guernsey Finance said its presence in Hong Kong – which is run in partnership with the Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GSFC) – had supported the development of the agency’s ongoing work in China, which began more than ten years ago.
Kate Clouston, deputy chief executive at Guernsey Finance, said the island had gained more visibility among Hong Kong intermediaries who were now better informed about the opportunity to work with Guernsey service providers.
“The GFSC has received more than 100 technical inquiries across all sectors over the past 15 months and it has certainly been helpful to have their presence to support our work,” Clouston said.
Kwok has eight years’ experience in the trust and corporate services industry, most recently with Equiom, which has a Guernsey office.
