Global insurer Aon has partnered with Irish Life Investment Managers to launch a €260 million climate transition fund for the Irish market.
The Aon Emerging Markets Climate Transition Fund will focus on companies in emerging markets that contribute to climate action and UN sustainable development goals.
According to Aon and ILIM, the fund is designed to offer Irish investors a “modern alternative to traditional passive emerging market equity investments”.
The fund launch means that Aon Ireland’s climate transition strategies have now invested more than €1 billion.
Head of investment at Aon Ireland, Denis Lyons, said that responsible investing was “no longer niche” but has become mainstream as the market has grown strongly in recent years.
“That momentum is now being felt here in Ireland,” said Lyons. “Despite global volatility, investors want to make a positive impact on the planet and society while also achieving sustainable, long-term returns.”
