Identifying where asset managers are in their digital transformation journey is difficult to generalise about but the notion that the industry lags other sectors is widespread.

Just as widespread, however, is the notion in asset management that having a powerful technology platform is the linchpin for successful operations. Technology can automate processes, personalise client reporting and – in the arena of investment decision making – it can harness the almost endless economic and financial data needed for profitable investment decision making and supporting risk management.

Speaking to private-markets asset managers for this report, we see that their views on technology’s progress may vary but there is nevertheless a great appreciation for investment data and for the technology that is used to harness it.
