Investors set to increase exposure to renewable energy

There is large support for increased investment in renewable energy over the next three years, a survey found.

Nearly three-quarters of 60 institutional investors and independent financial advisers in the UK expected investment levels to increase and 17% said it could “increase dramatically”.

Renewable Energy Waste Solutions (REWS), which conducted the survey, found only 8% anticipated a decline in investment values.

The findings underline the surge in responsible investment funds, which have doubled in size since 2010.

Nearly half of those surveyed said the main reason for the increase was the supportive political and social environment.

Over two-thirds said another attractive feature of renewables was the expectation that renewable generation costs would fall over the next three years.

Additionally, some 13% of respondents said the sector had an increasingly strong and proven investment track record, while 12% said renewables offered attractive returns in the current environment.
