East Capital appoints chief sustainability officer

Karine Hirn, a founding partner of Swedish asset manager East Capital, has become the firm’s first chief sustainability officer.

The role is newly created and means Hirn will oversee environmental, social and governance (ESG) activities as the emerging markets specialist seeks to adopt full integration of ESG analysis into its investment process.

Hirn will also coordinate new initiatives across the company based on its existing ESG framework, East Capital said.

Peter Elam Hakansson, partner, chairman and chief investment officer, said ESG has been a “core feature” of East Capital’s investment approach since the business was set up in 1997.

“Twenty two years on, we have a well-established ESG framework covering engagement with companies, stock exchanges and authorities, as well as peers and associations within the industry,” he added.

East Capital is based in Stockholm and manages €2.9 billion in assets.
